Cindy Rae opened her eyes to the world on a winter solstice morning in the Loess Hills of southwest Iowa. She was the second daughter and third child of Mary and Erv, who soon added five more children to their catholic clan. Cindy spent the first three years of her life on the farm of her birth but since has been a “city kid’.
Cindy Rae opened her eyes to the world on a winter solstice morning in the Loess Hills of southwest Iowa. She was the second daughter and third child of Mary and Erv, who soon added five more children to their catholic clan. Cindy spent the first three years of her life on the farm of her birth but since has been a “city kid’. Many weekends and summers were spent visiting and keeping in touch with relatives in the surrounding farming communities. It was the freedom of being on the farm that developed Cindy’s love of nature and lifelong belief that chickens can be mean! The experience with mean chickens likely inspired her dedication to meditation and promoting kindness in this world.

Under the soil, or in the shadows is often where brilliant and beautiful things begin. The origin story of ceramics goes something like this: anthropologists believe clay’s unique properties were discovered by smearing wet clay on the inside of a basket to waterproof it, which was then placed over a fire. It became a hard and permanent stone-like shell of the initial vessel. To me, this is not unlike birds building nests, adding clay to strengthen and shape their vessels/architecture.

This little cowboy was part of a fundraising event for a dance group in Mexico. The dancers wear traditional clothing and learn traditional dances.
I am a spunky 70-something artist and lifelong learner living in Omaha, Nebraska. Throughout my life I have dabbled in many different forms of creativity. I like to try new things and familiarize myself with a broader range of mediums. Photography, acrylic, oil, pencil/graphite and mixed media are all in my wheelhouse.
