Earlier when I started making an effort to get my work out into the hands of art lovers and collectors I worked on this body of work. Created between 2004 – 2009

The images are a recreation from my memories of my childhood growing up in Cameroon.

Before immigrating to the United States to pursue higher education.

My childhood was filled with plenty of vibrant experiences. My family lived in Douala (economic capital of Cameroon), but moved to various parts of cameroon..

Once I stepped foot in the States, as a teenager, like many, it was not easy adjusting. A new environment, I spoke the same English but it sounded different to the American ear. I had to make new friends all over again. The food was strange, and unfamiliar. Winters were long and extremely cold. Not to mention learning to navigating a new socio-racial political landscape. Becoming part of this new culture was going to be very challenging.

Once I found my place in art class it was on …. This series of work was me capturing what was lost or being lost in the process of my becoming Cameroonian-American.
