My name is Samuel Lemuel McGee and I am an artist from Omaha, Nebraska. I mostly work in painting, both physically and digitally. I enjoy drawing the most as that is how I started but I feel I can be more expressive with painting. This is one reason I enjoy digital painting because I get the feel of drawing while also having a splash of color and texture like a painting.

I mostly paint physically during the school year and digitally in my free time. My last few paintings were made in 2019, it was a small series that started off as one planned painting being a tribute to my late grandmother while others were made unplanned and based off my artistic instinct. By the time I finished the last painting I realized they represented my inner feelings and mindset during that period. I hope to continue to grow as an artist finding new inspiration and ideas to execute.

I love everything full of color and life! My background is in the arts, specifically studio art and art history. With an experienced eye for design and color, I love to create work that is visually captivating and unique. I am a graphic designer and painter, but with careful thought they go hand in hand. My art is painted with intent, delivering pieces that I hope give the viewer the comfort of structure, along with the emotional release of abstraction.

Under the soil, or in the shadows is often where brilliant and beautiful things begin. The origin story of ceramics goes something like this: anthropologists believe clay’s unique properties were discovered by smearing wet clay on the inside of a basket to waterproof it, which was then placed over a fire. It became a hard and permanent stone-like shell of the initial vessel. To me, this is not unlike birds building nests, adding clay to strengthen and shape their vessels/architecture.
