Bill Hoover

Bill Hoover

Bill Hoover has been making art in Nebraska for over 25 years. He first garnered attention at Creighton University where he won first place at the year-end juried exhibition with a ceramic piece he made in a beginner class. Through the encouragement of a mentor in 1993, he began exhibiting his child-like oil based crayon drawings in AAO exhibitions as well as The Radial Cafe. He won best in show in nearly every exhibit, and patrons began to purchase Hoovers work. His paintings are highly sought after by collectors around the United States. Over the years his style has matured and deepened, evolving into a complex and layered vocabulary of narrative and symbolism. Hoover has painted murals, participated in the O! Project and has been in countless group shows at the Bemis and Joslyn. He has had 15 solo shows, as well as exhibitions in New York and Baltimore.

Bill Hoover’s art is a dynamic synthesis of both his interior and exterior worlds. Using oil paint, charcoal, graphite, and textures like sand, he builds up his paintings using shapes, colors both muted and bright, and texture till he arrives at a place that is fresh, unpredictable, and meditative.

His work is widely collected throughout the United States and is featured in many private collections.
